About MaqAmir
A studio in your pocket — multitrack recording, mixing, a synth lab, AI production tools, and cloud sharing, all running natively in the browser with sample-accurate timing, minimum latency, and studio-grade fidelity. No plugins to install.
MaqAmir is built on the Web Audio API. The whole engine — every piano voice, every synth oscillator, every drum machine sample, every FX node — is scheduled against audioContext.currentTime so that nothing drifts, nothing skips, and nothing depends on the JavaScript event loop for timing.
It began because the standard 12-tone equal-temperament keyboard cannot play the music a large part of the world actually listens to. The microtonal piano, the maqam scales, and the per-octave tuning controls were the project's first reason to exist — and they remain a freedom no other DAW offers, always available and never mandatory. Around that core grew a complete production environment: the recording studio, the multitrack mixer, the synth lab, the drum kits, and the AI tools that together make MaqAmir a full DAW you can carry anywhere.
Acknowledgements
MaqAmir stands on a great deal of open-source work and on traditions much older than software. The list below tries to credit every package, sample library, and lineage we rely on. If we've missed you, please get in touch and we'll fix it.

Cultural & Musical Heritage
MaqAmir's microtonal piano and cultural scale library draw on centuries of work by musicians, theorists, and communities far older than any software project. We acknowledge in particular:
- The Maqam traditionArabic, Turkish, and Persian modal systems that gave the project its name.
- Carnatic & Hindustani classical traditionsRaga structures and microtonal practice from the Indian subcontinent.
- Just Intonation & Equal Temperament researchersTuning systems and historical temperaments referenced in the Scale Library.
